What is God’s will for my life? What does he want me to do to be a better person? You’ve probably asked this question many times before, or even thought it. As believers, we all want to know the answer. The role of the church in our everyday lives is to bring us closer to God and keep us away from sin, not only is the church a social place for us to go but a place to worship God. God wants us to be perfect, which is why the church is there to help guide us. The role of the church is to strengthen our relationship with God, gain knowledge and stay in the footsteps of God. In my perspective, the church is like a branch of a tree and we are the branches and the church is the tree. God has ordained the church to carry out His purpose and to fulfill his will to the world. When we consider the biblical teachings of the church, we realize the church is extremely important for helping us grow in Christ.
Many of us may know family, friends, teachers and others, who have strong beliefs in God, but are not frequently present at church. To me, the church is like our practice and what we need to enter eternal life. When we are not present at church frequently, our knowledge, beliefs and practice start lacking and can soon fade away. Without the congregation, there wouldn’t be a church. In the old testament, St. Moses was called by God to deliver this message to the people and he said , “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy” (Exodus 20:8). Some may argue that coming to church is irrelevant and not important but on the seventh day when God had rested from all his work that he had made, Sunday fulfills and completes the Sabbath because it anticipates our eternal rest in God (Genesis 2:2-3). The objective of coming to church on Sunday is the celebration of partaking in the holy communion.
There are many examples in the bible that show the role/purpose of the church such as Noah’s ark and St. Moses with the tent of tabernacle. God spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai and instructed him to construct and transport a tabernacle for the Israelites, which is a place to pray and learn about God. God ordered that the tabernacle to have various details on how the church should look like (Exodus 22). Just like Noah, he was a righteous man and always walked with God. As the world was corrupt, Noah was sent a message from God to build an ark and take those who are non-sinful and all living creatures, would be saved from the waters (Genesis 6-8). Just like the boat, for us to reach eternal life and be saved we need to come to church and practice reading the Bible on a daily basis.
