During the holy time of lent, we travel a journey with Jesus along His path to His death and resurrection.
When Adam and Eve sinned by disobeying God and eating the forbidden fruit, their spirits died because they got separated from God. God did not want them to be separated from Him and decided to sacrifice His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ, by sending Him down to die for us.
Jesus was perfect and ever-loving. He died for our sins not because He deserved it but because He loved us more than He loved Himself. Jesus was whipped 39 times for us, His clothes were torn and gambled over, He wore a crown of thorns, was crucified and pierced with a spear. When we look at the crucifix, we remember God’s perfect love and all the pain He endured so that we could return to Him.
Nonetheless, Jesus’ crucifixion is not a sign of weakness but of His Almighty strength. God could have easily let Himself down off the cross. He could have sent angels to punish all those who hurt Him, but Jesus endured all this and even forgave His transgressors because of the strength of His love.
After Jesus died, He was buried and on the third day, He rose from the dead.
He rose again! He gave us new hope by freeing all those in Hades from the chains of sin and by allowing us to live in hope of His second coming by opening the gates of heaven.
