We all get bored from time to time , especially during this quarantine which we are in but it matters how you use your time especially spiritually. The definition of the word bored is “feeling weary because one is unoccupied or lacks interest in one’s current activity”, we use this word on a daily basis when we don’t have things to do or we don’t feel like doing things but that can make us lazy. In Proverbs 19:15 it says “laziness casts one into a deep sleep , and an idle person will suffer hunger” and as we know in the bible the Holy Spirit fills us once we are baptized so when we hunger in my opinion we silence a bit of the fire in us and it can drive us into bad paths. Boredom itself isn’t a sin but what we do when we are bored can influence sinful actions, for example you get very bored and your friend tells you to come and sneak out with her and since you are so bored you go out with her which will affect you and your relationship with God.
In Proverbs 6:9-11 it says “How long will you slumber, O sluggard? When will you rise from your sleep? A Little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to sleep—So shall your poverty come on you like a prowler, And your need like an armed man.” In my opinion I think the verse means that the more lazy we get and the more we act on our boredom , we are slowly disconnecting with God because we should use our time on earth to get to know God and to let others get to know him. Instead we are not doing anything when God is giving us the opportunity to do so. For example during a big chunk of this break God gave us no school and work which is one of the biggest issues when it comes to our connection with him and yet we still don’t use this time wisely and we claim we are bored when we can be learning new things, such as a new language out of the 7099 languages or reading the millions of books that explain our religion and why is that ? Sometimes I think it’s the devil that can make us feel so bored so that we can move slowly away from our purposes and into his evil path , he makes us feel empty so that we can try to find something bad to fill us when the good things don’t and we know that will make us full for a short time and then we thirst again but Jesus said “whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst” yet we still choose the wrong water. Take this time to reconnect with God and use this time of “boredom” to do one of the many beautiful things God gave us .
