Obedience is when we follow the rules. Rules are set by our parents, school, country and the Bible.
- Obeying God: “Jesus replied, ‘Anyone who loves me will obey my teachings.’” John 14:23
Obeying the Bible and God’s teachings are how we show God we love Him. How can you say you love somebody but you do not do what they ask of you? That does not make sense! We should obey the 10 commandments and the church rules to show God that we truly love Him. - Obeying your parents: “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.”
Our parents love us very much. It may seem annoying when our parents ask us to do certain chores or tell us to study but we have to realize that our parents only want the best for us. When they ask us to do chores, it is because they want us to learn responsibility. When they tell us to study, it is because they want us to succeed! Even Jesus obeyed His parents: St. Mary and St. Joseph. He listened to His mother’s intercessions and turned water into wine at Cana of Galilee! - Obeying those who are older: “Likewise you younger people, submit to your elders.” (1 Peter 5:5)
We must respect our elders. That includes our teachers, Sunday School servants, grandparents, and other adults. We should obey our elders because they know more than us and have had more life experiences than us. We can learn lots from our elders!
