Something which we do not question often is the importance of communion. When we question our actions we gain a clearer understanding of why we do them; so let us now reinforce our faith in the power of communion by understanding what it is and why it is necessary that we do it.
Let’s start by what it is. Our Lord Jesus Christ said at the last supper that this is his body and blood which is broken for many to be given for the remission of sins. From this we know that through communion along with repentance and confession we gain the forgiveness of our sins. During the liturgy we say it is the food for our souls we also say it is promising eternal life up in the paradise. Therefore we now know that it is through this sacrament that we can enter into Heaven. The Lord said that by taking part in this sacrament we proclaim his death, confess his resurrection and remember him until He comes. So in summary communion is, reminder of the forgiveness of our sins, the food for our souls and a steadfast reminder of the sacrifice which Jesus made for us./br>
After knowing all of this, it is not difficult to understand why we take communion. We know that it is the forgiveness of sins and through it can we enter the kingdom of Heaven. The Lord said that he is the way to Heaven and there is no way but through Him, so it’s mandatory to take His holy body and blood to enter Heaven which is the ultimate goal of our faith. We also know that it is also the food of souls, we know that to stay healthy we must eat, so it is only logical that we feed our souls with communion and prayer to maintain a healthy relationship with God. This relationship is vital to overcoming the temptations which will be scattered along your road to Heaven. Communion, lastly, is the confession of our faith, if we did not believe in Christ then we would not see any purpose in communion, a steadfast faith is our strongest weapon against the devil because without faith we are reciting what we say when we pray and eating just another piece of bread when we take communion which is essentially a waste of time.
I will leave you with this, communion is the forgiveness of sins the food for our souls and a steadfast reminder of the sacrifice which Jesus made for us and without it is impossible to enter into the gates of Heaven.
